I am a trained tourist guide and I am passionate about sharing the history and culture of Singapore to people from all walks of life, from all over the world. I was born and raised in Singapore's Chinatown as a child, and I know every nook and corner of this area. That temple that you see over there, it used to be a coffin warehouse used by undertakers. That boutique hotel over there, it used to be a brothel. Gangsters and secret societies used to the roam the streets of Chinatown, and the window of my second floor room offers a front row seat to gory gang fights. The smell of opium as a result of men chasing the dragon (opium smoking) constantly percolate the air in some dinghy corners.
These are the kind of personal experiences I can relate to guests as I walk them through the "original" Chinatown of days gone by.
